Umuahia, Abia State | 25th March 2026 — In what stakeholders have described as a timely intervention in educational infrastructure, the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has been widely applauded for initiating the construction of a strategic road network within the Methodist Theological Institute, Umuahia.

The road project, which connects the institute’s main gate to its Chapel, commenced in earnest today, signaling a renewed commitment by the state government to support faith-based educational institutions and enhance learning environments.

Speaking during a media interaction, the Rector of the institute, Very Revd Nwaike Kingsley Raphael, expressed profound appreciation to the Governor for what he described as a thoughtful and impactful gesture.

According to him, the intervention will not only improve accessibility within the institution but also significantly enhance the overall academic and spiritual experience of students and staff. He further noted that the Governor has given assurances to extend development efforts to other critical areas within the institution’s Education Complex.

The Rector also specifically acknowledged the vital role played by Chief Kingsley Agomoh, General Manager of UCDA, for his significant contribution toward the realization of the project.

“This is a clear demonstration of a leader who understands the value of education and the role of the Church in nation-building. We are deeply grateful for this gesture and hopeful for the additional support promised,” the Rector stated.

Adding his voice, the Chairman of the Governing Board of MTIU, Rt. Rev Sunday Obioma Eze, described the development as both historic and deeply encouraging.

He commended Governor Otti for his sensitivity to the needs of theological education, noting that such interventions strengthen not only infrastructure but also the moral and spiritual foundation of society.

“This gesture reflects a government that recognizes the strategic role of institutions like MTIU in shaping values, leadership, and national conscience. We are sincerely grateful and confident that this partnership will yield even greater outcomes,” he remarked.

Students of the institution were not left out in the outpouring of gratitude. The Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Bro Emediong Otu, speaking on behalf of the student body, commended the Abia State Government for prioritizing their welfare through infrastructural development.

He described the road project as a long-awaited relief, noting that it will ease movement, improve safety, and contribute positively to campus life.

“This development means a lot to us as students. It shows that the government is mindful of our needs. We sincerely thank the Governor for remembering MTIU Umuahia and for this impactful intervention,” he said.

Recalled that in our publication a few months ago, on 19th August 2025, the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, was similarly applauded for his visionary and proactive leadership, especially in supporting the institution through earlier interventions that significantly improved the environment and security of MTIU.

Observers note that this latest initiative aligns with the broader developmental agenda of the Abia State Government, particularly in strengthening educational institutions and fostering partnerships with faith-based organizations.

As work progresses, expectations remain high that the project will be delivered promptly and serve as a catalyst for further infrastructural transformation within the institute.
