Archbishop Opoko Celebrates His Excellency, Dr. Chimaroke Ogbonnia Nnamani at 65: A Visionary Leader’s Legacy

Umuahia, Nigeria – May 30, 2025 – In a moving tribute, His Grace, Most Rev (Dr) Chibuzo Raphael Opoko, TFSG, DOB, JP,  the Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, joined well-wishers across Nigeria to celebrate Senator Dr. Chimaroke Ogbonnia Nnamani as he marked his 65th birthday. Widely recognized as a visionary leader, medical doctor, and former Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Nnamani’s legacy continues to inspire transformative governance, youth empowerment, and infrastructural development in Nigeria.

Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani: Transforming Enugu State with Vision and Purpose

Dr. Nnamani, a distinguished Senator and former governor, is credited with reshaping the political and economic landscape of Enugu State. Through his tenure (1999–2007), he initiated widespread development projects that addressed both urban and rural challenges.

“Dr. Nnamani changed the narrative of Enugu State,” said Archbishop Opoko. “His tenure ushered in a new era of road networks, electricity, clean water, hospitals, and educational infrastructure.”

Ebeano Political Dynasty: Raising a Generation of Leaders

One of Dr. Nnamani’s most enduring legacies is the creation of the Ebeano Political Dynasty—a platform that empowered thousands of young Nigerians, enabling many to become federal ministers, national lawmakers, commissioners, and local government executives.

This youth-inclusive model of leadership is widely studied and praised for its strategic foresight in building human capital and promoting national development.

Notable Achievements Under Dr. Nnamani’s Administration

Some of Dr. Nnamani’s hallmark achievements include:

  • Establishing the permanent campus of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT)
  • Building the ESUT Teaching Hospital
  • Creating the Enugu Campus of the Nigerian Law School
  • Improving the Enugu State judiciary and governance structure

These projects elevated Enugu State’s reputation as a center for academic excellence, legal training, and healthcare delivery.

A Compassionate Statesman and Philanthropist

Archbishop Opoko shared personal stories of Dr. Nnamani’s generosity, recalling how he supported his family in 2005 during a difficult time after an attack in Onitsha.

“He provided us with free medical care, accommodation, feeding, and transportation. He also paid for an elderly woman’s pilgrimage and offered me the same privilege,” the Archbishop noted.

Such gestures highlight the former governor’s Christian values, commitment to humanitarian service, and inclusive leadership style.

The Methodist Church Nigeria has also been a beneficiary of Dr. Nnamani’s visionary support and generosity. His partnership with faith-based organizations strengthened spiritual development and contributed to community well-being.
