“The measure of a man is not in his wealth, but in the lives he uplifts for the glory of God.”

Umuahia, Nigeria — October 24, 2025

The Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Umuahia and former Secretary of Conference, Methodist Church NigeriaHis Grace, The Most Revd. Dr. Chibuzo Raphael Opoko, TFSG, DOB, JP, has extended warm felicitations to Chief Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu, the revered businessman, philanthropist, and founder of the Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation, on the joyous occasion of his 90th birthday anniversary.

Archbishop Opoko described Chief Adebutu as “a Kingdom steward whose life exemplifies divine benevolence and covenantal service to humanity.”

“At 90, Chief Adebutu stands as a living epistle of grace — a man whose faith, philanthropy, and far-reaching influence have advanced both the Church and society. He is a testimony that when wealth is surrendered to God’s purpose, it becomes a river of blessings to generations,” Archbishop Opoko said.

A Life of Purpose, Service, and Grace

Chief Adebutu’s life, the Archbishop noted, is “a symphony of stewardship — orchestrated by divine grace and expressed through sacrificial generosity.”

Through the Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation (KAAF), he has positively impacted countless lives, funding education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and community development initiatives across Nigeria.

Among his outstanding philanthropic legacies are:

  • Philanthropic Donations: Pledged over $2.7 million towards education, healthcare, and infrastructure across Remoland — impacting Sagamu, Ikenne, Iperu-Remo, and Remo North.
  • Education: Donated a state-of-the-art library to Crescent University, a ₦50 million e-library to Baptist Academy, and an ultra-modern center to the University of Lagos.
  • Healthcare: Established the DIAMED Centre, Nigeria’s first diagnostic center equipped with cutting-edge 3D mammogram technology — setting a new benchmark for medical excellence.
  • Youth Empowerment: Through KAAF, he has funded scholarships, vocational training, and youth entrepreneurship programs, building hope and shaping futures.
  • Community Development: From schools and hospitals to vocational hubs, Chief Adebutu’s legacy is cemented in sustainable impact and compassion for the less privileged.

Notably, Chief Adebutu also wrote off ₦500 million owed by Wesley University, Ondo, a gesture Archbishop Opoko described as “a Christlike act of mercy and magnanimity that reflects the true heart of stewardship.”

A Kingdom Steward Celebrated

In his message, Archbishop Opoko emphasized that Chief Adebutu’s generosity transcends mere philanthropy — it is a “ministry of giving,” rooted in divine purpose.

“The Church celebrates you, not just as a philanthropist, but as a vessel through whom God’s abundance flows to humanity. You have sown into the soil of eternity, and your harvest shall continue to speak long after your days,” he affirmed.

He further prayed that God would grant the nonagenarian continued health, strength, and joy in witnessing the fruits of his labours.

“May your days be long in peace, your heart full of joy, and your legacy ever fragrant before God and men. Your 90 years are not just counted — they are crowned with impact,” Archbishop Opoko concluded.

A Legacy of Grace

As friends, family, and admirers celebrate Chief Kessington Adebutu at 90, his life stands as a beacon of Christian stewardship, social responsibility, and divine purpose.

Indeed, the words of the Archbishop echo true —

“Blessed is the man whose hands are open to bless others; for in blessing, he becomes the hand of God to his generation.”

Worthy Is the Lamb!
