Umuahia, Nigeria – August 19, 2025 – The Methodist Theological Institute, Umuahia (MTIU), has expressed profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Oti, for his visionary and proactive leadership, especially in supporting the institution through recent interventions that have greatly improved its environment and security.
In an official letter of appreciation, the Rector of MTIU, Very Rev. Dr. Raphael Kingsley Nwaike, commended Governor Oti for his swift actions in addressing key infrastructural and security concerns facing the institute.
Beautification and Landscaping Project
Governor Oti’s decision to landscape and beautify the frontage of MTIU with grass and flowers has not only enhanced the aesthetics of the Mission Hill campus but has also lifted the morale of students, faculty, and the surrounding community.
“This intervention is a refreshing testimony of your commitment to creating an environment where education, spirituality, and communal life flourish in beauty and order,” Dr. Nwaike noted.
Strengthened Security Through School Fencing
Even more significantly, MTIU praised the Governor for fencing Mission Hill Primary School, an adjoining institution that directly supports the security of the theological institute.
For years, MTIU had faced troubling security challenges, including intrusions by drug addicts and persistent harassment from Fulani herdsmen, who frequently attempted to graze their cattle on the institute’s farmland. This not only endangered the safety of students and staff but also threatened the sustainability of the institute’s agricultural projects.
By closing vulnerable sections of the fence, Governor Oti provided much-needed relief and reinforced the sense of safety on campus.
“Your Excellency has reassured us that government remains a true partner in protecting its people and institutions,” the Rector affirmed.
Call for Continued Security Support
While expressing appreciation, MTIU also used the opportunity to appeal for further strengthening of security measures around the Mission Hill–MTIU environment to decisively address ongoing threats from herdsmen invasions and related concerns.
Leadership Beyond Words
The Rector lauded Dr. Oti’s style of governance, describing it as “leadership not measured by lofty words but by bold and compassionate actions that touch lives and strengthen institutions.”
Conclusion
MTIU joins the wider Methodist Church Nigeria, the people of Abia State, and the educational community in applauding the Governor for his continued support.
As Dr. Nwaike concluded in his message:
“May God Almighty continue to grant you wisdom, courage, and divine protection as you lead Abia State into a new dawn of peace, prosperity, and progress.”
