Umuahia, Nigeria – July 19, 2025 – As His Excellency Peter Gregory Obi, affectionately known as Okwute (The Rock), marks his 64th birthday, tributes are flowing in from across Nigeria and beyond. Among the most moving is a tribute from Most Rev. Dr. Chibuzo Raphael Opoko, TFSG, DOB, JP, the Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, who describes Peter Obi as “a pillar of hope, a selfless patriot, and a beacon of visionary leadership.”

“In him, a new Nigeria is possible. He is selfless, sacrificial, and deeply committed to the transformation of our nation,” Archbishop Opoko remarked.

Peter Obi: The Rock of Prudence, Progress, and People-Centered Governance

In a country where public trust is constantly under pressure, Peter Obi’s name rings with clarity. As a two-time governor of Anambra State, his administration stood out—not because of loud publicity—but because of quiet, consistent impact.

He governed without borrowing recklessly. He prioritized education. He paid salaries. He left billions in state reserves. He focused on development that outlived his administration. Peter Obi’s leadership was driven by purpose, not politics.

Peter Obi’s legacy as Governor of Anambra State (2006–2014) remains a shining example of transformational leadership. His administration was defined by fiscal discipline, transparency, educational reform, and people-first policies.

“Peter Obi is not just a political figure. He is a moral compass for the next generation of leaders,” Archbishop Opoko stated. “He governed Anambra with uncommon prudence, humility, and strategic foresight.”

Despite facing adversity, skepticism, and overwhelming odds, Peter Obi has consistently upheld hope, resilience, and determination in the face of Nigeria’s complex challenges. He exemplifies selflessness, humility, and an unshakable commitment to national rebirth.

A Man of Compassion and Passionate Purpose

In Peter Gregory Obi, Nigeria sees a leader who truly cares for the people. His compassion for the underprivileged, passion for good governance, and unrelenting desire to change negative narratives have made him an icon of hope.

“He is an embodiment of selflessness and humility,” Archbishop Opoko noted. “He has both compassion and great passion to alleviate the sufferings of people.”

Legacy of Stewardship: Key Achievements as Governor of Anambra State

During his remarkable tenure as governor, Peter Obi achieved milestones that earned him both national and international recognition:

✅ Reformed the education sector by returning mission schools and renovating public institutions
✅ Left billions in state reserves with no outstanding debts
✅ Invested in health, commerce, and infrastructure — without borrowing
✅ Prioritized youth empowerment, SMEs, and job creation
✅ Promoted accountability, transparency, and integrity in governance

His achievements continue to serve as case studies in leadership and public administration.

A National Leader with Global Appeal

Archbishop Opoko highlighted that Peter Obi’s influence transcends Anambra. His 2023 presidential campaign under the Labour Party ignited massive youth engagement, civic responsibility, and a renewed hope for national transformation.

“Peter Obi is the voice of a new political awakening. His influence has reshaped how young Nigerians engage with politics—emphasizing values over volume,” the Archbishop observed.

Peter Obi’s competence, character, and capacity have made him a central figure in Nigeria’s democratic future.

A Christian Statesman with an Unshakable Moral Code

Peter Obi’s Christian values, modest lifestyle, and dedication to charitable causes reflect a man of faith who not only talks the talk but walks the walk.

“He lives what he preaches. A man of faith, a man of action,” Archbishop Opoko added, praising Obi’s humility and generosity toward churches, schools, and health institutions.

In Peter Obi, a New Nigeria Is Possible

Today’s youth are tired of empty promises. We want role models, not rulers. We want servant leaders, not self-seekers. That’s why Peter Obi continues to ignite a movement—a civic awakening that transcends tribe, religion, and party.

Why We Must Keep Celebrating Leaders Like Him

We live in a time when the moral fabric of leadership is being torn apart by greed and mediocrity. That’s why it is important to shine light on men who stand out, who dare to be different, who refuse to trade their convictions for political convenience.

At 64, Peter Obi reminds us that hope is alive, that character still matters, and that Nigeria will rise—not by magic, but by men and women of vision and integrity.

Birthday Blessings from the Archbishop

Archbishop Opoko concluded his tribute with a heartfelt blessing:

“May the Almighty God continue to guide you, bless you with long life, divine wisdom, and sound health. May you live to see the Nigeria you dream of—a country built on justice, equity, and truth.

Keep leading. Keep building. Keep believing.

Happy Birthday, Your Excellency!

In you, a New Nigeria is not just a dream—it’s a growing reality.
