π️ “HE WILL RISE AGAIN” — John 11:23b Inspires Church to Proclaim National Hope Amidst Challenges
The 64th Annual Synod of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Umuahia, held at Rhema Chapel, Methodist Theological Institute, Umuahia, ended with fiery deliberations, a prophetic message of national hope, and a strong communique addressing the state of the church, nation, and youth.
Chaired by His Grace, Most Rev. (Dr) C. R. Opoko, Archbishop of Umuahia Diocese, alongside Synod Secretary Very Rev. Chidi Nnabugwu and Diocesan Lay President Sir Okechukwu Ndukwe, PhD, the synod had 187 delegates from thirteen circuits, engaging in prayerful deliberations on key matters of national and ecclesiastical relevance.π₯ Highlights from the 64th Synod Communique:
πΉ 1. Theme of the Synod – A Call to Hope
Themed “He Will Rise Again” (John 11:23b), the Synod reminded believers that despite Nigeria’s challenges, faith in Christ assures resurrection and restoration—even from decay.
“Nigeria, like Lazarus, though seemingly dead and hopeless, will rise again!”
πΉ 2. State of the Church – Return to Righteousness
The Church was admonished to stand firm in biblical doctrine, model integrity, and explore profitable and godly ventures for the benefit of society.
πΉ 3. State of the Nation – A Call to Leadership and Justice
Synod strongly condemned:
- Rampant kidnappings, corruption, insurgency, and unemployment
- Continued illegal detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, urging immediate release in line with court rulings.
The Church called for:
- National re-orientation with positive perception (Jer. 1:11–12)
- Fervent prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all in authority for governance in righteousness and justice.
πΉ 4. Commendation to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State
His transformational leadership in infrastructure, education, health, and pensions was praised with a charge to continue prioritizing the people.
πΉ 5. The Judiciary – Eyes of the Nation Watching
The Synod warned against a judiciary influenced by bribery and power, calling for a return to fairness as the "last hope of the common man."
πΉ 6. The Youth – The Soul of the Nation
Youth empowerment through education, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, and research was emphasized as the only way to secure Nigeria's future.
πΉ 7. On the International Scene
- Applauded Captain Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso as a resilient African leader.
- Condoled the Catholic Church on the passing of Pope Francis, and congratulated Pope Leo XIV on his installation.
πΉ 8. Electoral Integrity
The Synod raised concerns over electoral crises, particularly in Rivers State, and urged INEC and political actors to ensure justice and transparency in future polls.

In a powerful decree, the Synod prophesied:
“From our fervent prayers and faith in Christ, Nigeria shall rise again—like Lazarus, she will live beyond this 65-year independence coma.”
