Abuja, Nigeria – May 2025
In what is shaping up to be one of Nigeria’s most impactful youth empowerment movements, the Federal Government has launched the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalisation Programme (YEIDEP)—an initiative set to transform the lives of millions of young Nigerians through financial support, entrepreneurship training, and mentorship.

With over 5 million youth applications already received, YEIDEP is fast becoming the largest faith-inclusive, development-focused youth program in Nigeria’s recent history.

✨ Why YEIDEP Matters for the Church and Nation

The biblical principle of equipping the next generation is echoed in this national project. Just as Scripture encourages young people to be “examples in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity” (1 Timothy 4:12), YEIDEP seeks to uplift Nigerian youth—empowering them to rise above economic limitations and contribute meaningfully to society.

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande (represented by Joseph Oluwole), revealed that a dedicated YEIDEP committee has been inaugurated to oversee ₦500,000 non-refundable grants, business training, and sustained mentoring of youth beneficiaries.

πŸ› ️ What the YEIDEP Program Offers Young Nigerians

Under the 2025 rollout, the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalisation Programme includes:

  • Non-refundable grants up to ₦500,000 for youth-led small businesses
  • Free business and skills training focused on entrepreneurship, agro-processing, and digital economy
  • Mentorship and follow-up to ensure long-term success
  • Continuous monitoring to evaluate progress
  • Special focus on agribusiness and youth startups

These provisions align with Methodist values of diligence, stewardship, and empowerment of the next generation through practical knowledge and moral guidance.

πŸ“Š Why Over 5 Million Youth Are Interested

National Coordinator Kennedy Iyere noted that Nigeria’s youth form a vast economic demographic but face severe unemployment and poverty. YEIDEP, therefore, represents real opportunity—not just handouts, but strategic tools for a better future.

Permanent Secretary Olubunmi Olusanya (represented by Anthony Chukwuka) emphasized:

“This overwhelming response shows that our youth are not just seeking financial aid—they are hungry for change, impact, and growth.”

πŸ”„ The Road Ahead: What to Expect Next

The committee has laid out a clear path for transparency and inclusiveness:

  • Screening of over 5 million applications
  • Selection and disbursement of grants directly to bank accounts
  • Enrollment into free training programs
  • Mentorship and guidance to reduce failure and boost sustainability
  • Tracking and reporting mechanisms to avoid fraud

This structure ensures fairness and integrity, both of which the Church continues to advocate for in governance and public service.

πŸ™ YEIDEP’s Alignment with Kingdom Principles

At a time when many Nigerian youths are discouraged or turning to negative influences due to economic frustration, this initiative is a welcome answer to prayers for many families. The Methodist Church Nigeria consistently emphasizes the role of positive engagement, skill development, and integrity-driven empowerment in shaping future leaders.

YEIDEP also presents a powerful avenue for Christian youth to pursue godly enterprise and fulfill their destinies in Christ—“The diligent hand brings wealth” (Proverbs 10:4).

✝️ A Call for Continued Advocacy and Prayer

As this initiative unfolds, the Methodist Church Nigeria urges young people to apply wisely, stay hopeful, and uphold integrity. Let us also continue in prayer for our leaders, that this vision will be executed with justice and wisdom, to the glory of God and the advancement of national development.

πŸ“’ Final Word: A Generation Set to Rise

YEIDEP is more than a policy—it is a call to action. It has the potential to spark a rising generation of purpose-driven, business-minded, and God-honoring youth. If managed well, it may become a turning point for Nigeria’s youth in 2025 and beyond.
