Owerri- In a move that has sent shockwaves across Imo State’s political landscape, Governor Hope Uzodinma has dismissed the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Imo State, Barrister Cyprian Okechukwu Akaolisa, with immediate effect.

The announcement came on Monday, May 26, 2025, via an official press statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba, in Owerri.

According to the statement:

“The Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma, CON, has approved the immediate removal from office of the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr C.O.C. Akaolisa.”

The directive further instructs the former Attorney General to hand over all government property in his possession to the State Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, without delay.

Political Drama in Owerri: A Second Dismissal?

This is not the first time Barr. Akaolisa has been shown the exit door by the Uzodinma administration. In May 2021, Governor Uzodinma dissolved his cabinet and removed 20 commissioners, including Akaolisa. However, in a dramatic turnaround, he was reinstated in August 2021, after the government clarified that his earlier inclusion in the sack list was a mistake.

Observers in Imo political circles are already interpreting the current decision as a major political shake-up, especially considering Akaolisa's perceived loyalty and closeness to the governor.
